Protecting Your Swimwear from Chlorine and Salt
Chlorine and salt water are wonderful for a swim and harsh on swimwear. Both gradually break down elastane and dull colours, but a few simple precautions keep your pieces looking new.
Rinse before and after
Rinsing your swimsuit in fresh water before you swim helps the fabric absorb less chlorine or salt. Rinsing again straight afterwards removes what it did absorb.
Avoid sitting on hot surfaces
Rough, hot poolside tiles and concrete can snag and weaken fabric. Always sit on a towel to protect both the fibres and yourself.
Be careful with hot tubs
Heated, heavily chlorinated water is especially damaging. If you love a hot tub, keep a dedicated older swimsuit for it and save your best pieces for the sea.
Treat chlorine and salt as the temporary visitors they are, rinse them away promptly, and your swimwear will thank you for seasons to come.
